Holiday Dreams
Our young artists drew their perfect holiday gifts this year: a home with family.
Every December, the Partnership conducts a drawing contest for the children of the families we serve and the winning drawing and artist are featured on our year-end holiday card. This year, we asked kids to draw what the holidays mean to them.
Nia, our 12-year-old featured artist for 2017, drew this picture:
Nia’s family knows what it’s like to live in a shelter, to worry about having enough food on the table, and to wonder where their next home will be. Now, the dream Nia drew has come true: a Christmas with her family all together around the dinner table, sharing food and laughter and love.
Her mom, Nicole, has sacrificed a lot to be able to make sure her family never returns to homelessness. The holidays aren’t "about the materialistic things because there are other people less fortunate,” she explains. Listen to what this single mom of four cherishes most in the short clip below.
