Volunteer

We don’t know where we’d be without the thousands of dedicated volunteers we’ve had over the years. From serving meals to passing out toys at a holiday party to stuffing envelopes, volunteers have been vital in the fight against homelessness, poverty, illness, and despair.
We welcome individual volunteers as well as employee groups and faith groups to assist us with events, special projects, and community outreach. Here are a few upcoming opportunities:
- Holiday Party: Every year we organize a festive holiday celebration for families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness, providing a much-needed respite from the daily challenges of poverty in some of our city’s most disadvantaged neighborhoods. Help us spread holiday joy this year.
- Painting Project: How good are you with a paintbrush? Thanks to the vision of designer Valerie Moran and the generosity of Benjamin Moore, we are redecorating the lobby areas of Positive Step and the Family Resource Center. Help us make these spaces beautiful.
- Community Garden: Do you like getting your hands dirty? The Family Resource Center will be kicking off a community garden in East New York this spring to promote healthy eating and living. Help us plant, water, weed and cultivate this space. <
